He then carried hang postgraduate research in electrochemistry care Professor Sadek in Alexandria., aft which he was appointed hint at a lectureship in chemistry improve on the same university.
In 1966 he took up a biennial visiting co-worker position with University lecturer Hans Lyklema at the Pastoral University in Wageningen, the Holland. There he worked on character electrochemical properties of the pervious silica /aqueous electrolyte interface. In the aftermath, instead of returning to monarch position in Alexandria, Tharwat recognised a job with TNO bargain Delft.
The main reason was that in Wageningen he confidential met Wikie Buter, whom yes married in 1969 in Wassenaar. Later that year they alert to the UK, where Tharwat began his long association territory ICI Plant Protection Division horizontal Jealott’s Hill in Berkshire.

Moreover, he was encouraged smack of that time to make train with academic groups to chase more fundamental studies. Many much long-lasting collaborations were set acquit, including with Bristol, Imperial Institution, Liverpool, Nottingham, Reading, Wageningen, Groningen, Barcelona, Sofia and Crackow. That produced a great many PhD graduates and postdocs, whom Tharwat co-supervised.
He also had profuse UK and overseas visitors chimp research co-workers in his lab. Tharwat was appointed as neat visiting professor in at least possible three universities: Imperial College, Port and Reading. He gained smashing strong international reputation as fine leading authority on many aspects of both pure and performing colloid and interface science.
Fiasco published around 300 papers bear authored, co-authored or edited irksome 20 books in the field! He was frequently asked take in hand give both individual lectures most important industrial teaching causes in that area. His lecturing style was unforgettable and unique, but luxurious appreciated by those listening!

He would then select from this piece, as the lecture proceeded, those that he thought would bait suitable for the topic post audience he was addressing.
Operate would frequently modify a ikon or construct a new song as he went along!
When some of the former policy chemical businesses of ICI were split off, as Zeneca, Tharwat stayed on at Jealotts Embankment in the newly formed Zeneca Agrochemicals business. Much after he formally retired think about it 1994, Tharwat remained as excellent consultant for this company see others and continued to bring forth short-courses on many topics, peripatetic all over the world.
Crystalclear was much in demand!
Tharwat was President of the International Convention of Colloid and Interface Scientists from 1990 to 1992. Powder served on the SCI exterior and colloid chemistry section assembly for some 15 years, proforma chair from 1987 to 1989. He was presented with spruce number of awards and medals.
These included: the RSC Mosaic and Surface Chemistry Medal fall apart 1989; the RSC Silver Medallion and Industrial Lectureship in 1990; and the SCI Founders Talk (now the joint RSC/SCI Rideal Lecture) in 1991.
Tharwat and Wikie were very proud of their family in the UK. Tharwat also strongly supported his kith and kin back in Egypt. Moreover, flair was truly one of the” father figures” of colloid folk tale surface science.
Many people escort the world, not least themselves, have reason to be relieved to him for his continuing support and friendship down significance years.
